I just finished reading Effortless Mastery. It was a very liberating experience. I felt like it was written for and about me. It is reassuring to know I'm not alone. Aside from the enlightenment and tools it provides (which I look forward to working with), I came away with the following new perspective.

Accepting the premise presented in the book I see four possible paths foward.
1. I could stop playing music all together. Completely give up.
2. I could continue to play but give up any dream of attaining mastery in any sense.
3. I could continue to work as I have been believing eventually I'll reach my goal.
4. I could learn "not to care" and accept whatever the future holds.

Knowing #1 and #2 are giving up, and accepting that #3 is impossible, the only option left is #4, to learn "not to care". This is both liberating and sad, perhaps like going through a divorce (although I have not experienced that). I feel like I have to experience "the greiving process" and be reborn to leave #3 behind. It's liberating to be done with it, forever, to be done with the stress, the dread, the worry. But now I don't know if I'll ever achieve my goal and I have to be content with that. At the same time, it is clear that this is the best chance, the only chance, that I may someday achieve it. Like a divorce, I can't begin to rebuild until I go through the pain of seperation from the old way of thinking. At the same, time I know I have to do it to move forward, regardless of what waits ahead. Mr. Werner, thank you so much for sharing this with the world.

Hi Kenny,
wonder if you remember me... Munich, at about 30 years ago, Unterfahrt...
We did some jam session together... Anyway - I read your book. It is simply great, impressed me deeply. I ordered a DVD today - more of this! If you ever come to Vienna, Austria, don't hesitate to contacting me! All the best, Mic Oechsner.

Hi Mr.Werner!

Unfortunately I only discovered your music this year here in Portugal, but fortunately I bought almost all of your albuns! Your music, and your way of thinking and living music is absolutely awesome and inspiring! I don't know if this is true, but I found some similarities with the japanese zen buddhism like "vacuum"/"absolute zero" as a state of being in the most true present, or "satoro" (awakening), or even the relaxation of nothing expect... Next year I'll try to attend to NYU's Steinhardt College of Music's Master Degree in Jazz Performance (piano), I really hope to meet you there (it would be like a dream come true)...
In my myspace I have two tunes wich are "free playing" with improvised piano and live improvised electronics, if you have a couple of minutes it would be an honour if you listen...
Once again thank you so much for your music and your literature!!!

Greetings from Portugal
