When Alex Riel goes on stage in Copenhagen Jazzhouse on July 9 and 10
it will be to celebrate his 50th anniversary as a professional drummer.
Throughout his career Alex has played with almost everybody in jazz –
–from local stars to international legends,
young and old, traditional and modern, European and American.

The Copenhagen Jazz Festival is an annual event held in Denmark’s capital Copenhagen.
This 10-day event focuses on Jazz like no other jazz festival in the world.

Now in its 30th season, the festival fills the air with jazz in all its forms,
from bebop to fusion, swing and free jazz, at venues large and small throughout the city.

From Tivoli Gardens, to the Royal Theatre, The Operaen opera house,
The Royal Danish playhouse, the famed Copenhagen Jazz House and countless
small, intimate performace spaces, jazz fans can catch performances by the world’s top headliners.

There’s something for everyone, and many are free for all.

The number of concerts and performances have reached 850 in recent years.
Every year in the first half of July, Copenhagen expects more than a quarter of a million
visitors at this major annual event, no matter what the weather in Denmark may be like.

The Copenhagen Jazz Festival was founded in 1979 and takes place every summer for ten days, in early to mid July.

Most of the concerts and performances are free, only a select few
require admission (Copenhagen Jazz Festival program & tickets here).

The Copenhagen Jazz Festival makes sure that Copenhagen will be full of jazz music
and there is no set location to visit:
You will find performances in the smallest cafes, in the city parks,
along streets, in clubs and event centers.

Sonny Rollins, Oscar Peterson, Ray Charles, Michel Petrucciani,
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Keith Jarrett, Dizzy Gillespie, John Scofield and many, many more…
