Dear Mr Werner,

My name is Nicholas Marks, I’m a 20 year old student from Melbourne, Australia currently completing my undergraduate studies in Music. I specialise in Jazz, focusing on Piano Performance. I am a big fan of your work, both musical and academic. I am currently in the United States for the next two weeks and was wondering if it would be possible to organise a lesson. I am currently in Los Angeles but will be going to New York on the 21st of September.

Let me know if you are available, it would be very much appreciated!

Yours sincerely,
Nick Marks

Cecilia Tenconi June 25, 2009 at 11:30 am

Hi Kenny,
I have been a fan of your playing for many years and last November I was fortunate enough to read you book. I have given it as a present several times to many friends who have thanked me profusely. I was just in Buenos Aires , Argentina, where I was born and raised, and some of my musician friends who don’t speak English very well were very interested in the book, they asked me if there was a Spanish translation, I looked for it and didn’t find it. Is there one? Is there anybody working on it? I would love to volunteer for the job.
I am a professional musician born and raised in Argentina and living in New York for over 20 years. I think I could do a great job with your book and I know it will help a great amount of people who are not English speakers.
Hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely
Cecilia Tenconi

I am a 4rd-year-classical piano student in Finland who also like and dream to play jazz myself sometimes in the future. But it seems to me that it is still impossible to play it sounds like jazz, and partly because I just taught myself through reading the theory.
I recently bought the great book Effortless Mastery on line . Actually ,I have read that book 3 times
before my C-level piano exam and thanks so much for the wonderful thoughts and way to
make music or even life. I passed that exam and got a full score. Then I tried many ways to get
the book ,but only until now ,because of my newly Visa card , I can have it at hand. Surprisingly I got a broucher about Jazz ,but of course again —-theory . I could be wonderful if you can give me some practical oppinion on jazz piano play later .
best wishes

Craige Williamson September 7, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Dear Mr. Werner,
I am an amateur tenor player, and I have always admired your playing and I am a student of Effortless Mastery. We are starting a yearly jazz improvisation clinic here on the coast of Maine to start in September of 2010. The clinic is for adults and directed at intermediate to advanced players. The course will last one week and will take place at the Kneisel Hall campus in Blue Hill, Maine. Is there any chance you would be interested in being an instructor at the clinic? We would be honored to have you.
Thank you,
Craige Williamson

Chris Sankey October 4, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Kenny,
I am a student of Orville Hynes in Toronto. I saw you at the lecture you gave this summer. I found it very motivating and would like to find a way of studying your technique. I am a kit drummer, guitar player, and singer (all at a fairly basic level, but full of enjoyment). I use musical exploration as a means of opening up, exploring sound and myself. I have no need to perform “at a high level” yet do enjoy when I am more able to express new ideas and play with others in a manner that “works.” Any suggestions? I did go to one of your other websites, however it said the book (and other materials?) were sold out. Thanks
Chris

Claude Askew November 2, 2009 at 9:54 pm

Dear Kenny,
Claude Askew here from The Airmen of Note outta Washington, DC. We featured you a couple of years ago during one of our Jazz Heritage concerts and as life goes, it seems like only yesterday. I have been re-reading and practicing Effortless Mastery and just wanted to get in touch and thank you for a marvelous concert, a great evening at dinner, and listening to your thoughts on life. At the time my daughter was very young and she is now pushing 16 so the teenage moments are a bit different . I am now living in Christchurch, NZ and we are loving it down here. Trying to get into the music scene albeit slow but a challenge in many positive ways. Anyway, I want to send something to you and just wanted to make sure that the address above in Clinton Corners is ok to get it to you. Best wishes in all things.
Kind regards,
Claude Askew (ret) drummer for The USAF Airmen of Note

Juliet Dunn December 6, 2009 at 10:17 am

Dear Mr. Werner,

My fiance (Peter Shea) is an accomplished jazz pianist and (for an early Xmas gift) I would like to book a piano lesson with you for him. (If this is at all possible.) We will be in NYC on Dec 9th, 10th and 11th (morning).

He is a graduate of U of T and I believe that you have met him in the past.

To see some of his playing you can view:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqM7JsoeS8E
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlaktHztPIw

Please let me know if a lesson in NYC would be at all possible, and if so the cost.

Thank you so much for your time!

Kind regards,
Juliet

PS He is a HUGE fan of ‘Effortless Mastery’ and promotes it to EVERY musician he meets! (He bought me a copy as well.) :)

Chuck Laper December 18, 2009 at 11:15 pm

Do you have an e-mail address for Calude Askew? (retired drummer from the Airmen Of Note) I’ve been a fan of his for a number of years, and wasn’t sure where he moved to after he retired He told me he’d been thinking of moving to New Zealand, but at the time they hadn’t made up their mind. last time I saw him, he gave me a new head for my bass drum, and I wanted to tell him how much difference it has made in the sound.

Thanks
Chuck Laper

Happy New Years Everyone! I glad, gracious, and grateful to be starting my new journey to effortless mastery. I am 21 years old and I have been playing for eight years now and I have come to a new milestone in music! Honestly, purchasing this book has to be the best 20 bucks I have ever spent in my life! I have found my inner space! I have never seen this space before! It’s a beautiful place that I love to live in, and I love to practice there even more. To Kenny Werner, I am almost a spitting image of you as a child, I had the same struggles and to see how successful you were in overcoming them, It give me fuel 4x to press on! Thanks a lot! keep it coming with the encouragement! I love you, and may God bless you!

David Gleason January 19, 2010 at 2:20 pm

To Mr. Werner

My name is David Gleason. I am a jazz pianist and music teacher living in New York’s Capital Region. I am currently a finalist for a grant from the Surdna foundation which promotes teachers at arts high schools reconnecting with their artistic roots. As part of this grant project I am looking to take 3-5 lessons during June-August with an excellent jazz pianist. These lessons would be at your convenience and funded through the foundation. If this is something we can consider, please respond. I would be glad to provide a resume or recording if it helps. If this is not something that you would consider, could you please suggest a pianist that might be willing to provide this service, I’m looking for someone well rounded (trio, solo, ensemble, composer) with a notable contribution to jazz.

Thank You,

David Gleason

David Gleason January 25, 2010 at 9:10 pm

Kenny,
Thanks for your quick response. I look forward to setting up some lessons for this summer. I’m sure you know how these type of grants work. If you wouldn’t mind sending me an official sounding letter, nothing long, as an attachment or an email, stating your willingness to commit to giving me lessons and your fee it would help me to set this grant up. I could also forward them the email you sent me recently, but I’m having difficulty locating it in my inbox.
Thanks again, for being especially for being so approachable.

Hi, Kenny–
As a former professional musician (drummer), who spent a brief period at Berklee and gave music up in frustration many years ago, and who has now taken up playing the electric bass, I have deeply appreciated your book, telewebinars, and video’s. They are paving my road back to my involvement with music.

I have taught t’ai chi for almost 20 years, and it finally dawned on me why I was drawn to it–doing t’ai chi is like playing in that wonderful state you have described. As a matter of fact t’ai chi practitioners are generally called “players.” At its best the t’ai chi form “un-spools” just the way a tune does when someone is truly at one with the music.

Keep up the good work, and many thanks for your inspiration!

dear Mr. Werner,
I am an amateur pianist playing in a jazz combo.
I am desperately looking for the “lead sheet” of your composition Balloons. I love this song the way you play it. And I very much would like to study it and practice this song. The chords as you play them would be enough for me already, maybe the melody too, but this I already figured out. Thanks in advance !

The joint research, using functional magnetic resonance imaging, or fMRI, and musician volunteers from the Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute, sheds light on the creative improvisation that artists and non-artists use in everyday life, the investigators say.

It appears, they conclude, that jazz musicians create their unique improvised riffs by turning off inhibition and turning up creativity.

My husband is a clarinet/sax player – dixieland jazz. He discovered Effortless Mastery about 5 years ago and has studied it so diligently that the bindings fell apart and we replaced the first book twice more. Looking for a 4th copy, I was able to find him an edition with “ring bindings” that he has enjoyed for the past 2 years and though dog-eared….it looks like a keeper. Please make more of these available…we haven’t found these again. He has recommended and/or purchased this book for numerous musician friends. Each night he goes to sleep meditating to Kenny’s tapes. He tells everyone that Kenny Werner’s book has changed his way of looking at his craft, and that this new knowledge has increased his musicality by leaps and bounds. Not being a musician myself, I don’t totally understand it, but I can hear the new excitement in his performance and in his attitude about other aspects of his life and I can tell that it has helped him immensely.

Dear Kenny and Lorraine,
I have been thinking of you. I heard about your beautiful daughter’s accident. Now I’ve seen No Beginning, No End. Thank you so much for this incredible work. It provides so much to others and is so beautiful. I’m looking forward to the cd. Kenny, I also looked for your very early vinyl record “Bridge Street???’. Any in existence? I’d love to buy one.
I send you both all my love,
Lynn (dancer and certainly a blast from the past)
